Tip #1: Try, Try Again!

I have recently been contacting churches, hoping to learn more about the 2nd-great grandmother I was named after. I created a list of possibilities and started working my way down that list.

After my first two phone calls ended with polite but disappointing answers, I elected to contact the next church on my list by writing an email.

Well, the email was sent…

A week went by with no response…

So I gathered my courage and dialed up Church #3.

A friendly voice picked up almost immediately and this time, it seemed possible that I might find answers to my questions! The church actually had existed in the right time and at the right place and they still had records in their office. This kind secretary took notes on my 2nd-great grandmother and promised to search the books for me. Two days later, she called to share that she had in fact found my ancestress in the church’s book of “those who passed on.”

The lesson for me was simple:

Try, try again!

What if I had stopped trying after my non-successes in contacting the first two churches?

What if I had been too shy to call when my email went unanswered?

Obviously I would not have this record!

So today I encourage YOU to persist (politely of course) until you find your answers!

Try, try again to make those family connections!
